Early last month we hung out with Raphaella for an afternoon as she played an incredible cover and her new single for us, both of which we're really excited to bring you!
The North London raised artist-songwriter-producer Raphaella is a striking mix of Persian, English & Scots, who builds her unique sound around her mixed heritage – a dark electro soundscape of alternative UK indie-pop with Persian sprinkles on a bed of synths.
Since Raphaella’s independent release of ‘Parallel Lines’ and the Zed Bias remix in Spring 2014, she’s been working on her next releases, embarking solely on both these records, she initially presents her arrangement and production of Sohn’s ‘Artifice’ (free download 1st Dec) prior to the release of her original single ‘In The Dark’ and remix package coming 31st January.
A successful multi-platinum selling songwriter and producer, published by Phrased Differently, she has upcoming collaborations, features and co-writes with among others Oliver Heldens, Dyro, Bless Beats, Diztortion, Delta Heavy, Crom and Thanh, Ray Foxx, Dave Silcox, etc.
2014 has been a great year with support from BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss FM, Capital Xtra, DJ Target’s Targo Embargo & Mistjam’s Radio Ripper, DJ Yasser’s BBC Introducing Artist Of The Week, BBC Introducing plays and live acoustics, etc. Live Raphaella’s East-meets-West vocal and demeanour distinguishes her in the industry, whether sitting alone behind a piano acoustically or captivatingly fronting her live band, introducing traditional Persian instruments into her set.
We think 2015 is going to be huge for Raphaella, so keep your ears to the ground folks you heard it here first.
