I wasn't surprised to see John Lewis choose this classic, and my own personal favourite, for their Christmas ad campaign this year. Currently number 1, its been given the treatment currently favoured by ad execs to slow the track down and add a rather fey female vocal (see Sweet Child of Mine / Your Song).
I came across this blog from Holly Johnson who penned the original, and was interested to see it was originally slower, but sped up in production. You can read Mr Johnsons article on his blog here

I loved the fact the song was never really meant about Christmas, but the use of the nativity in the video ensured it would be for evermore.
This live version by Holly on Jools Holland shows the song as I believe it should sound.
