Tipped to be one of the biggest selling albums of 2013, Random Access Memories, Daft Punk's first studio album since 2005, will finally be released on May 21st.

This, their 4th studio album, which was recorded in almost complete secrecy and taking the best part 5 yrs to make, is without doubt the most anticipated album of the year so far.

The duo, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have not held back on this latest offering.  After claiming that Electronic Dance Music is having an identity crisis and is very much in its comfort zone, Daft Punk on this album have moved away from their usual use of samples and have somewhat limited the whole electronic aspect. This time around they’ve been busy experimenting with a string of live musicians and collaborators, including the legendary ‘Hitmaker’ Nile Rodgers, vocalist Pharrell Williams & Italian ‘King of Disco’ Giorgio Moroder to name a few.

Perhaps the most exciting thing about this project is the fact that the entire album from start to finish has been recorded in live studios with real people (mainly in Paris & New York).  This in its self is somewhat refreshing for today’s EDM, which is generally produced on laptops in hotel rooms and airport lounges by traveling DJs.

This coupled with an inventive pre-release marketing campaign, engaging fans with video teasers, has ignited the excitement and anticipation surrounding this latest release.

The debut single ‘Get Lucky’, which features Pharrell Williams on vocals and Rodgers on guitar, has already smashed records, having the biggest streaming day for a single track in the US and UK on the day of its release on the Swedish online music site, Spotify.

If that’s anything to go by, this album will be going down as one of the greats for sure!

Daft Punk receives two thumbs up from the Imagesound team on their latest creation!
