Another trip to London another talented musician, this time in the form
of Gizmo Varillas, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of emerging indie band
Crash Island, who is branching out with his own solo project. Combining his
gentle vocal, haunting BVs with Latin and reggae guitar rhythms he brings a
refreshing groove and take on the current singer songwriter scene that he calls
“Dark Tropical.”
Gizmo was born in Santander, grew up in Bilbao and arrived in London by
way of Cardiff where he studied media as an aspiring documentary maker. Between
leaving Cardiff and moving to London, Gizmo travelled to the South of France
with nothing but a backpack and ukulele. While writing on beaches across the
region people would continuously gather around to listen to his performance
touched by his simple but soulful compositions. Upon arriving in London he
formed the indie band Crash Island who have already signed a transatlantic
record deal and received praise from Les Inrockuptibles.
This is ‘One and Only ‘ the very first single to come from this promising new
talent currently playing the London live circuit including recent supports for
Jack Savoretti and Gavin James. Most recently it was chosen amongst 100s on BBC
Music 6’s Tom Robinson’s Fresh On The Net’s top 10 tracks.
